You might be a little confused as to what exactly Wuilt does and what all these techy terms that have been thrown at you mean, so we thought we’d make this little cheat sheet to help you out.
While this packet includes a lot, it may not include everything, so always feel free to come to Rostom or Mahmoud for clarification if there’s something you don’t understand. Don’t be shy
WHAT WE DO
In simplest terms, Wuilt makes websites for businesses.
It’s a platform that lets business owners enter in some information and have a website. Just like that.
Our slogan is“WatchYour Website Build Itself,” and our entire business rests on the idea of letting a user sit back, type in some information, flip through some design options, and then be able to publish a website in minutes.
It’s all about simplicity. We want to emphasize the idea that your website is already built, and make the creation process as easy and quick as possible.
HOW IT WORKS
The first thing a user does after making an account with Wuilt is complete three steps. Users will be asked for three pieces of information that will be later used to automatically create a website.
First, they fill out their main business information.
Then, they add their services.
Finally, they add their contact information and/or location.
Once they do that, they automaticallyhave their very own website.
You’ll see that the three wizard steps were used to make the four main pages of their website(Home,About Us, Services and Contact). You’ll also notice that the industry that was put in(Bakery)has been used to automatically insert images onto their website.
If a user wants, they could just leave their website at that, but they now have the option of adding more pages. They can also change the photos, colors, fonts, and add different sections, forms, icons and links(moredetails on these will be explained later).
What’s important to know here is that everything inside of the builder is already made. The design team has created beautiful section designs for clients to choose from, so all a user has to do is flip through them using the“NextSection Design” button.
Once they’re done, a user just has to click Publish, fill out some more information, and then they’re online! They can also always go back and make changes later, even when their website is live.
WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE
The main difference between Wuilt and other website builders is how easy it is for someone to make a website with us. Our main competitors are Wix, Squarespaceand Weebly. These are Drag-and-Drop website builders(See:“Drag-and-Drop”below). They offer many more options than Wuilt, but they can be confusing, time-consuming and can leave you with poorly-designed websites.
Our automatic system makes a user’s life easier. The fact that everything has already been designed means that no design errors will take place. All users have to do is simply type in their information, and then choose the look that reflect their distinct tastes. That’s what make us unique.
WHAT YOUR ROLE IS
As a member of our chat support team, you are a vital part of this company. You are the person that a user will directly interact with, and everything you say will be a direct reflection of Wuilt itself. That may sound a little intimidating, but that why it’s vital for you to have a grasp on the information in this packet.
We want you to know about everything that goes inside this awesome product and the industry that it’s in. We want you to always appear friendly, knowledgeable and professional, and make sure that you fully understand what Wuilt is so that you can best explain it to a customer.
TERMS YOU NEED TO KNOW
In technical terms, a website is a collection of webpages put under one main domain name(likewww.myegy.com). Some examples include educational sites, news sites, social media sites, gaming sites and e-commerce sites.
In our case, we’re working with businesses who want to make websites that they will use to attract new customers or stay connected to current ones.
These websites need to show who they are, what they do, and how people can reach out to them. They can include pictures of their products, their location, quotes from past customers and more. It’s necessary to have a website so customers can find information about a company online.
A website builder is an online program that helps you build your website. It’s an all-in-one tool that let users build a website quickly and efficiently. You don’t need to know how to code or design to use them, which is why they’re very convenient for people without any web design experience. All you pretty much have to do is sign up, pay, design your website and then hit publish.(Wuiltis a website builder).
Most website builders use a drag-and-dropplatform. These website builders start by letting users select a template to work off of, such as one of these:

After a user has selected a template, they have the power to rearrange it by dragging and dropping certain items of their choice. Things like images, videos, social media buttons and more. They can choose fonts, colors, heading sizes, and move everything around to make it look exactly the way they want.
While these platforms are great because they allow creativity, they also have many side effects. Since they let people choose where everything on their website goes, they actually give people too much freedomto design their websites. This could lead to very ugly websites.
Wuilt is not a drag-and-drop website builder, because you can’t move anything around. You can only choose from the available options. That’s why you’ll notice that you can just flip through different section designs, that all our color palettes are already made, and that our fonts are already paired. We do have freedom for you to choose what you want inside of those things, but it’s structured freedom – you can’t choose everything. We do this to guarantee that ALL websites look good, no matter what.
Web hosting is the part of your website that lets it show up online. Websites are hosted(oressentially stored) on special computers known as servers. When someone wants to view your website, they will type in its web address(www.wuilt.com)and their computer will connect to your server and your website will show up to them.
Wuilt offers free web hosting services, meaning that when someone makes a website with us, they automatically get free hosting! The catch is that if they’re on the free plan, their website will be on a subdomain, while a paid plan get them their own domain.
Domain vs. Subdomain
A domain is a website’s unique identifying name. It’s the part of the URL that comes after https:// that people write into their browsers to search for a website.
With a domain, you have the freedom to choose any name for your website(aslong as it’s not already takenby somebody else).
A traditional domain has only your selected name:
A subdomain, on the other hand, makes you add content before your domain name:
That means it’s essentially a smaller domain that’s part of a larger domain.
As a general rule, we believe domains are usually better to use for business websites than subdomains.
What are the benefits of having a domain?
The main benefit of having a domain is that it makes a website look professional.
It gives a website a unique online identity. Something short that a user can easily type into their search bar without having to Google your name. Having your own domain makes your website memorable.
What is the harm in having a subdomain?
So, so much! First off, a website is going to automatically look cheap. Subdomains weakens a users’ trust because they assume you don’t have the proper resources to buy your own domain name.
If your competitors have a domain while you have a subdomain, people will assume the competition is more established than you are.
Plus, since subdomains are usually so long, they’re hard to remember, making it hard for your business to stand out to people.
Purchasing a domain with Wuilt
To purchase a domain with Wuilt, a user must first upgrade to a premium plan. As we said before, free users can get subdomains, but since we want people to upgrade to premium, we’ve made a domain part of the premium package.
There are two ways to purchase a domain within Wuilt.
First, a free user can purchase a domain hitting Publishand then choosing the upgrade option.
Once they go through the process of paying for a premium plan, they go back to the editor and hit Publishagain. This time, they will have these options and they can choose the Purchase a new domain option.
Then, they will have to make sure their desired domain is not already taken.
Emmasbakery.com was taken by another website, so I had to add to make some changes to it. There are also suggested domain names that appear below.
Once they do that, they will officially have their own domain!
Another option is to go to My Website, and click on Domain Settings
Here, they purchase a domain and go through the entire process.
Connecting your own domain
But what if a user already owns a domain and wants to use that?
The option of connecting that domain is pretty similar to the purchasing domain option.
First, they MUST be a premium user in order to do this.
Once they’ve upgraded to premium, they have two options.
They can click Publish, and then click on the second option –“Usea Domain You Already Own”
They will then have to type in their domain here.
After, they will have to configure it, which basically means they log into their service provider and input the necessary information to have their domain link to their Wuilt website.
The second option is to click on Domain Settings and then select“ConnectExisting Domain” instead of purchasing a new one.
Using a Wuilt Subdomain
The last option users have is to use a Wuilt subdomain.
As mentioned before, this is the option for free users.
Here, they simply click Publish, and use the first option.
Shutterstockis the place where Wuilt websites get their pictures.
All Wuilt websites automatically come with Shutterstock images based on the keywords a user initially entered for their industry, such as bakery, construction, plumbing, etc.
However, Shutterstock is its own platform – it’s a stock agency that lets contributors upload photos, videos, illustrations, videos and music clips for use by subscribers.
It has over 226 million stock images available.
The way it works inside Wuilt is that free users get no Shutterstock photos, while Premium users automatically get 5 free images.
All Shutterstock photos initially have watermarks, which is the light text on top of a photo that says Shutterstock.
A user can get rid of a watermark by purchasing the image(eitheras one of their 5 free images or as part of an extra package outside of it). You cannot remove a watermark unless you are a Premium user.
Pages are what show up in the navigation bar at the top of a website. You can make a page for anything – services, team members, photos and more. They’re what divide the main content of a website.
You can further divide any pages you want into subpages. An example of this is the services page. When someone enters their services in on the wizard, they’re automatically made into different subpages on their website.

The top four are pages, while the three words that appear below the arrow are subpages.
To add a subpage, simply press the add subpage icon in the pages section.
Sections are the content that make up pages and subpages. Basically, every page can have a specific amount of sections, and they range from facts to content to galleries to more.
Sometimes pages will only have one section, and other times they can have many types off sections. Users can freely decide which sections they want in their pages, and then choose from the different section designs that we’ve created.
To add a section, users simply click on the“AddSection” button that appears inside of a previously made section.
Content blocks are the pieces of information that make up our sections. Here, they’re the individual blocks that say“SEMMarketing,”“ContentMarketing,” and“SocialMedia Marketing.”
Users can do a lot with them. They can add as many or as little of them as they see want and change the text, images and icons in them. To add more content blocks, they have to press on the plus sign that appears at the top of a content block. This will duplicate it.
They can move them with the arrows, and delete them with the trash can icon.
Testimonials are quotes from customers where they share their experience with a business. In Wuilt, people can add a testimonials section to any page of their website. Or they can make a separate page just for testimonials.
Icons are small images and symbols that are supposed to be a representation of something. They are really simple and can communicate almost anything.
Icons appear in a few section designs throughout our website.
One section they appear in is a“Services”section design, such as this one:
Users can hover over this icon and edit it, and then search for the icon of their choice here:
A font is the overall design of letters. Different fonts have different styles, which can all give your website a distinct look and feel. Below are some popular font styles–you’llsee how different the words look depending on the font of choice.
An important thing to note here is that most other website builders give you the freedom to use as many different font styles as you want. However, as a general design rule, you should only use about 2-3 font styles, and you have to make sure your fonts all match.
This is why we’ve created a font-pairing system where users choose the font combination that they want to be applied to their entire website. That means they’ll have one font for all their headlines, and another font for the rest of their content.
Color palettes are a pre-selected assortment of colors that pair well together. Many designers work off of a few colors that they evenly distributed throughout a page.
The problem is that many people do not know how to properly pair colors, and where to use specific colors through their websites.
That’s why Wuilt automatically pairs colors together in color palettes. All a user has to do is select a color palette of their choice.
Then a user has the ability to edit a color’s saturation – which basically means they choose how intense or pigmented they want a color to appear on their website.
Assets is the place where people store all their images.
This includes both images from Shutterstock, or images they’ve uploaded themselves.
Call to Action(CTA)
A Call to Action is part of your website that is pushing people to act. It’s the quote that’s meant to encourage an immediate response or sale.
On Wuilt, it looks like this:
This section can be added to any page(andit’s good to actually put it in multiple pages), but is not recommended to be its own page. Users can also edit what specific Call to Action they want.
Linking is the tool we have that lets users place links within their site.
That means a user can click a button that leads them somewhere.
(Right now, the linking option only appears on certain buttons of our website, but we will be changing this to add more options later on).
To edit a link, a user must click on the Icon next to Visit Link wherever that appears.
Once they click on that, they will have the option of adding four different types of links: website pages, website URLs, phone numbers, and email addresses.
When a user links a website page, they will just be choosing any of the pages they already made, such as“AboutUs.” That means that when a user clicks a button above, they will automatically be redirected to the about us page.
If they do it with an email, they will automatically be given the chance to email them. The same thing works with adding a phone number.
To paste a URL, users simply copy and paste a URL. When someone clicks on the initial button, it will take them to an e website. If a user wants, he can make that website show up in the same page instead of Wuilt, or it can open in a new window.
Social links can be accessed by clicking on any social media icon throughout the website, such as one of these. To edit social media links, users simply hover over the icons, and click edit.
Once they do that, they can decide which social media icons they want to add.
They can add Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
Forms are the area of a website that people fill out to contact a site owner. They show up in the contact form page and look like this:
People can edit what they want it to say, and which content blocks they want inside. For example, they can only keep the“Name”and“Phone”option, or add something completely different one.
If someone asks you about the“EditForm Action,” they’re referring to this message that appears when someone hovers over the send button.
This is where users edit the email that the message will send to. They can also write a thank you message to appear once someone has filled out the form.
The Action Bar is just our name for the top part of the editor where people can edit pages, assets, colors and more.
Languages can initially be added in the beginning of the website creation process, right before completing the three wizard steps.
However, once inside the editor, users have the ability to decide which languages they want.
After clicking on the languages icon inside the Action Bar, they are met with the language options(wewill be adding more languages later).
Once they add a language, they can decide whether they want it to be enabled or disabled.
To enable a language, they simply click on the“Enable”Button. This means that this language will show up to users here.
That language will then appear as a translated option on their website.
If a user changes his mind, he can always go back and press“Disable”to remove that language from their website.
To make a new language a default language(meaningthat’s the main language that will appear when someone goes onto your website). They just have to press“MakeDefault.”
Remember – upgrading is what we want. We want users to sign up to be premium members. That’s why we put so many options inside of Wuilt for people to do that.
Let’s start with options outside of the editor, in the My Websites section.
The first is obvious:
Free users will automatically see the upgrade to premium banner.
The second is a bit more hard to find. If they click on domain settings, it will automatically direct them to the option of purchasing or connecting a domain. However, if they are a free user, they will have to upgrade to premium first.(Apop-up will appear that shows this).
Inside the editor, a user can click on the upgrade button in the top right-hand side corner.
They can also upgrade once they hit Publish. If they decide they want to purchase a domain or connect an external domain, then they will have to upgrade as well.
The upgrade process itself is pretty straightforward.
A user decides whether they want an annual or a monthly plan, and then they pay for it and go.
Note: an annual plan means they get a free domain, while a monthly plan means they will have to purchase their domain from us, or connect an external domain.
An important note: if a user has multiple websites on the same account, he will have to upgrade each and every one of them in order to use the premium benefits. Upgrading one website does not automatically upgrade any other websites.
To put it simply, responsiveness is what makes your website look good on all devices – phones, tablets and mobiles.
If you’ve ever made the window of a website smaller or opened it on your cell phone and noticed that it looks completely different than it did on your screen, that means that website isn’t responsive.
At Wuilt, however, our websites are automatically made responsive, which is a really helpful feature for a website builder to have. Some other website builders make it so that you have to manually go in and edit every single version of your website – meaning you’ll design one for computers, ones for phones, and one for tablets.
Users can view what their website will look like on different devices by clicking on one of these icons.
The page for mobile, for example, looks like this:
A blog is a website or a part of a website that features written posts about a specific topic. Think of it as an online journal that can be used for just about anything.
In our case, many businesses will have a blog in order to talk about the industry that they’re in and impart the knowledge they’ve gained on others.
One example of a blog is our blog.
If you go www.wuilt.com/blog, you’ll see a stream of articles written by our content writer. These articles are all about marketing and web design because that’s the field that Wuilt is in. However, depending on the field of choice, a business owner could make a blog about anything.
Why is having a blog a good idea?
One thing: they can drive traffic to your original website.
We won’t get into too much detail about this now, but just know that having a blog with helpful information that people are looking up will let them know they you are trustworthy and an authority in your field. In turn, this will make them more inclined to consider the original services you’re offering. That’s why we have our blog and update it regularly.
Why should someone upgrade to premium?
A premium package has many amazing features that we need to fiercely sell to potential clients.
One of the biggest benefits premium users get is the option to purchase or connect a custom domain.
Beyond that, premium users get 5 free Shutterstock photos, which is a really good deal given Shutterstock photos’ high quality.
Users also get more bandwidth and more storage space.
In the future, only premium users will have access to adding multiple languages.
There will also be only a few section designs that are available to premium users.
An analytics section will also be added in the future, which is where users will be able to track data such as who is visiting their website, where they are visiting from and how often.
